The Lynne Arriale Trio summons a wide range of moods, from a spacious whisper to a world-class burn. A finely tuned, highly interactive group, the trio has received rave reviews from around the world for their fresh and original arrangements. "Arriale is the best of the best", said Ann Hyman of the Florida Times-Union to describe the winner of the 1993 International Great American Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida. This competition has launched the careers of former contestants - Harry Connick Jr., Marcus Roberts and Kenny Drew Jr. One of 10 jazz pianists invited to tour Japan with a group called "100 Golden Fingers", Arriale shared the bill with jazz greats Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Kenny Barron, Harold Mabern, Junior Mance, Monty Alexander, Roger Kellaway, Ray Bryant and Cedar Walton. Soon after, she was a guest on Marian McPartland's award-winning National Public Radio Show, "Piano Jazz". Lynne also performed in concert with Marian McPartland, with one reviewer callaing her the "heiress apparent to McPartland". The concert paved the way for other engagements around the world. The Lynne Arriale Trio toured Europe, performing at the Pori Festival in Finland, the Northsea Festival in Amsterdam and clubs in Oslo, Hamburg, Malaga and Lisbon. Her trio performs regularly in New York at clubs such as Fat Tuesday's, Sweet Basil, B.Smith, Tavern on the Green, Iridium and Zinno. A native of Milwaukee, Lynne Arriale earned a master's degree in classical music from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. After graduation, she became interested in the art of improvisation. She began to study jazz and soon played professionally with her own group. In addition to performing with her own trio, Arriale has worked with Frank Morgan, Clark Terry, Emily Remler, Dakota Staton, Al Grey, Warren Vaché, and Gene Bertoncini. A gifted composer as well as pianist, her originals including "The Eyes Have It", "Heartsong", "Slinky" and "Blues for T.J." have received anthusiastic ovations from audiences worldwide. Chip Deffaa, New York Post critic wrote: "... when the last hushed note finally was played, the applause in the room was striking. The reaction Arriale elicited was testimony to her ability to reach people..."
