In the early 80's Hein van de Geyn and John Abercrombie were
playing together in the successful and popular group Topaz out of
the San Francisco area, where they both were living in that period.
Their paths separated when Hein moved back to live in Europe again in
1983. Since then John has been establishing himself as one of the most important voices on the guitar today. He made numerous, very successful records under his own name (accompanied by musicians like Peter Erskine, Marc Johnson, Michael Brecker...) as well as being a guest on other people's records (Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, Jan Garbarek, Kenny Wheeler, Ralph Towner...). Joe LaBarbera is, of course, well known for being the drummer in the great last trio of Bill Evans. After Bill's death in 1980, Joe has performed and recorded with the likes of Tony Bennett, John Scofield, Michael and Randy Brecker... Since returning to Europe, Hein van de Geyn has become one of Europe's most sought after bassplayer. Live as well as on record he proves to be an inspiring accompanist, as well as an exciting soloist. In 1990 he recorded a first album under his name, in duo with the legendary Lee Konitz, with whom Hein toured throughout Europe. Hein also played a couple of breathtaking solo-concerts over the last few years and he might well be considered one of the most inspiring, captivating and skilled bassplayers around these days. After having been involved as a sideman, producer and arranger for other artists, Hein took the initiative to form this exciting new trio. This group could prove to be one of the most interesting new groups to have been formed in the last years. A truly Trans-Atlantic meeting of three of the great improvisors around today.
