13th Gateshead International Jazz Festival

Friday 31 March - Sunday 2 April 2017, Gateshead, UK.

In less than six weeks Sage Gateshead will open its doors for the 13th Gateshead International Jazz Festival.

Squarepusher's live band Shobaleader One are playing a one-off, not to be missed double headliner with GoGo Penguin at this year's festival and it's sure to be one of the gig highlights of the year! GoGo Penguin will be playing music from their debut Blue Note album Man Made Object, and Shobaleader One will deliver choice tunes from the Squarepusher catalogue following the release of their much anticipated album Elektrac.

The festival also features a celebration of Amsterdam’s Instant Composers Pool Orchestra. Celebrating both 50 years of the group, and also co-founder Han Bennink’s 75th birthday, the ICP are in residence at this year’s festival with concerts, an improvisation workshop, film, exhibition and family show. Over the years, the ever-evolving orchestra has collaborated with many giants of the experimental music world and their current line-up consists of ten of the most innovative musical voices from around the globe.

The festival also welcomes Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko on his first visit to Gateshead, Neil Cowley Trio with their latest album Spacebound Apes, bassist Miles Mosely (West Coast Get Down), Clare Teal and her Hollywood Orchestra plus a triple bill charting a jazz journey from South and West Africa to Cuba featuring Rochard Bona, Alfredo Rodriguez Trio and Shabaka and the Ancestors.
