Bath International Music Festival 2006

Bath International Music Festival19 May - 4 June 2006 Bath International Music Festival began in 1948 and presents 17 days of the highest quality music in the historic city of Bath in May/June each year. The programme features many different styles of music, from classical recitals to traditional folk and world music. From 2006 the Artistic Director of the Festival is the musician Joanna MacGregor, who is introducing an even wider range of music to Bath and extending the interaction between contemporary artists and their creative projects. The jazz element of the annual programme was introduced in 1986 by Nod Knowles (now Chief Executive of the company and still active in programming its jazz). From the beginning Bath built a strong reputation for presenting contemporary jazz and creative music from Europe as well as from the great American tradition. Since 1996 the jazz element of the Festival has been concentrated in a long Jazz Weekend (at the end of May) presenting British audiences with many of the well-known British and European musicians as well as introducing artists and projects previously unknown in Britain. Under Joanna MacGregor, jazz is also given the opportunity to merge with other strands of the programme. www.bathmusicfest.org.uk Bath International Music Festival is produced by Bath Festivals Trust5 Broad StreetBath BA1 5LJUnited Kingdom +44 1225 462231 info@bathfestivals.org.uk
