Brosella Folk & Jazz 40!

A celebration, a tribute, a new chapter. A tribute to all those who have made their musical contribution to the festival. Hearty encouragement to all those who will continue along the road or take things over. A tribute to its leader, Henri Vandenberghe, real spearhead of the festival, who passes on the baton to the next generation, after 40 years of total commitment. The beginning of a new chapter, Brosella 2.0., as from 2017.

And one more makes 40! We've reached in such an exciting stage of our life: 2016 marks the 40th Anniversary of our Brosella Folk & Jazz festival, created in 1977, at the initiative of the City of Brussels. A birthday we intend to celebrate in style!

More than 500 groups on the tally.

Over these past 40 years, the Brosella Folk & Jazz festival has welcomed over five hundred groups/artists in the interests of cultural and linguistic diversity but also of mutual respect, tolerance and intellectual enrichment. Not to mention the street arts and theatre companies, jugglers, circus performers, storytellers, technicians, local associations ... With an average of 150 volunteers per year, Brosella has been able to rely on about six thousand volunteers, stressing the social and cultural bridge between different generations who all have at least one thing in common: culture!

It is with great pleasure that Brosella celebrates this special occasion with a prestigious programme and a whole lot of additional activities that will make our festival’s 2016 edition a party definitely not to be missed. The Brosella Kids Village promises to be entertaining and loads of fun for kids of all ages.

New at the festival is the ‘Brussels Poets Speakers’ Corner’, in collaboration with the Brussels Poetry Collective, where poets will bring their poetry in all sorts of styles and languages.

A poster exhibition will take place at the ‘Vlaamse Raad’ and a picture exhibition at the ‘Parlement francophone bruxellois’ as well as at La Tentation in Brussels.

Icing on the cake: Brosella will publish a book taking an unusual look behind the scenes and exploring the diversity of this participative event over the last 40 years.
